Pushing Out the Boat – Issue 11 Call for Submissions

Deadine: 1st october 2011

Submissions of writing and artwork are invited for Issue 11 of Pushing Out the Boat, North-East Scotland’s acclaimed magazine of prose, poetry and visual arts. Subject to funding, Issue 11 will be published in late Spring 2012, with the possibility of an online version to follow.

WRITING:
Send up to three poems and/or up to two prose/playscript pieces in English, Doric or Scots.

ARTWORK:
Send up to three images (colour and/or black-and-white) of 2- or 3-dimensional work – including line drawings, illustrations, photographs, etc.

Successful entrants will receive a copy of the magazine and an invitation to read or display their work at the launch event to be held in late Spring 2012.

Live sign up / QnA with CCS

NEOS are working closely with Creative Cultures Scotland to bring you an "open day" - at the Loft (50 cotton street) - where David Officer and Philip Thompson will be there from 12 noon to 5pm to answer questions, encourage people to join and participate in Scotland's largest and longest running open studios event.

There will also be a PC there, connected to the internet so people can join up there and then.

So! if you have always want to know more about NEOS, but were afraid to ask, then this is the event for you! If you are coming to use the free "sign up", why not bring a print quality image too (on a removable drive or SD memory card)!

The NEOS 2011 sign up deadline closes on the 12th of April - so this is a great chance for you to join, with a little bit of help from Phil and Dave.

If you have started an account, you'll need to get your image (print quality 5cm minimum) and payment to us - details on the website.

It looks like the numbers are going to be bigger than last year! so thank you one and all!

reminder for NEOS 2010 Entrants

Just a reminder that anyone sending images for their NEOS 2010 entry should send a jpeg / tif file that is 300 dpi and no smaller than 5cm wide or high. If you are unsure - please just make sure that your image is bigger than 1Mb - we can re-size it for you. Please also ensure that your image is the "right way up" and cropped to how you expect to see it in the booklet. Remember - it's very important to have a high quality image for the brochure to help us maintain the professional appearance we strive to achieve.

Call for Proposals: Limousine Bull

Limousine Bull would like to invite you make a proposal to take part in a
group exhibition of new work at Drum Castle NTS in conjunction with North
East Open Studios in September.

The theme and title of the event will be 'Trust'.

A number of different environments, habitats and settings will be
available to respond to and exhibit work in, including the Old Forest of
Drum (SSSI), Drumhill Forest, the rose garden, and the grounds and
gardens in general.

There are also a number of indoor settings available for an individual
response, as well as a general hung exhibition of two-dimensional works.
If you are interested, it will be possible to meet at Drum Castle in the
near future for a tour of the estate and grounds to discuss your ideas.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - ‘Reflections on the Planet’

Please help us raise funds by making a creative and unique contribution to an exhibition titled ‘Reflections on the Planet’.

All proceeds from sales go to supporting Caretakers of the Environment International Conference 5 – 11 July 2009

Work submitted must interpret the title of the exhibition
Information for making your artwork for the CD exhibition

· Please feel free to work on a any surface you prefer.
· Measurement of template has to be exactly 138mm x 119mm (so that it can fit inside the CD case).
· If you would like to send more than one work we would be delighted.
· All work will be sold anonymously and affordably priced at £25.00.
· Please do not sign the front of your work but remember to sign the back.
· Please return your completed work no later Friday 25 June to enable us to prepare the exhibition.
· The exhibition will open on Monday 29 June from 6pm – 8pm to which you, your friends and family are invited.
· Buyers of CD’s will be told the name of the artist when they collect their CD, at the end of the exhibition, which runs until the Friday 31 July 2009.

NEOS 2009 applications now closed

Applications for the 2009 North East Open Studios is now closed.
if you have registered for 2009, you now have until the 18th of April to PROOF READ, send a print quality image and payment to reach us - we will endeavour to contact you if any element of your entry is missing - but we will not accept any data AFTER the 18th April.

Incomplete entries will be DELETED after the 18th of April.

NEOS'09 Applications now online!


The online application form is now open so please visit www.northeastopenstudios.co.uk/createaccount.asp and first, create an account (email and password) - you can then log in using these details to create your NEOS'09 entry & contact details.

We have changed how the entry form works this year - there are two simple pages to collate your details - the Directory listing (your venue) & the information NEOS needs to contact you (private - non visible information).

The NEOS'09 entry fee is £97 (£107 for paper application (send an SAE to the address below)) - NEOS are also running a "youth scheme" - if you are aged 24 or younger (born before 22nd September 1987), the entry fee for NEOS'09 is £50

The deadline this year for entries is Friday the 10th of April. This deadline is absolute.

This year, we are printing 25,000 directories, which will be distributed Scotland wide.
